Visitors sign in and wear badges
Risk assessments are carried out
Fire drills are practised regularly
Children are only released to authorised adults

🌈 Additional Support Needs

As part of your application form, you would have informed us of any additional support needs. If not, please do so by emailing Kellands.nursery@aberdeenshire.gov.uk. This means the staff can be prepared for your child starting. This also indicates to your Key Worker that they will need to have a discussion with you before your child starts about how best to meet their needs and support them. This way staff can implement any methods or strategies that might be helpful to your child’s transition and time at nursery.

We may even discuss the possibility of an individual support plan or risk assessment if we feel it may be needed.

Letting us know of any outside agencies will also help staff as we can make contact with them prior to your child starting to make sure we are providing the best possible care we can.

🤝 Family Support

Nursery staff are always aware of what support there is for families amongst the local community across a wide variety of subjects, they also know who to contact to gain more information if need be.

We have an ‘open door policy’, and you can always request to speak to a staff member either outside or through a video/phone call.

Educational psychologists
Speech and language therapists
Other specialist services

🛑 Child Protection Statement

Everyone has a responsibility to protect children from harm. School staff are in a unique position to contribute to the protection of children and must share concerns with appropriate colleagues and agencies.

Every school has Designated Child Protection Officers who have been specially trained to listen to concerns and act on them as necessary.

Kellands School’s Designated Child Protection Officers are the Head Teacher (Mr. Graeme Mollison) and the Depute Head Teachers (Miss Stacey Johnstone and Mrs Lyndsay Hay).

Kellands Nursery’s Designated Child Protection Officers are the Senior Practitioners, Kat Douglas and Claire Singer.

If as a parent you have any concerns, please share them with a Designated Child Protection Officer. Unless satisfied that a child has not been harmed or is at risk of being harmed, the school must relay their concerns immediately to the social work service or the police. Social work and the police will determine when and how the child’s parent/carers and other services are to be informed of the concerns.
